Citizens Advisory Committee

The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) of the South Shore Estuary Reserve Council was established in 1994 to make recommendations and provide guidance to the Council in the preparation of the Reserve Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP). Since the adoption of the CMP in 2001, the CAC has focused on implementation of CMP recommendations. It is authorized to prepare reports, recommend studies, and submit findings and recommendations to the Council.

The CAC is comprised of representatives of citizens and civic groups, environmental groups, user groups, and business organizations. The purpose of the committee is to integrate the stakeholder concerns in the planning and decision-making process and to encourage public education and stewardship. The CAC advocates for CMP implementation actions that affect all neighborhoods and communities within the Reserve and encourages citizen involvement inthese actions.

The CAC assists with CMP implementation by recommending and implementing education and outreach activities and products that will increase public awareness and stewardship of the estuary. It reviews and provides input to the Council on these activities. The CAC also integrates citizens' and user groups' viewpoints in the CMP implementation process.
