Wantagh Park Bikeway A 5-mile network of paved bike trails criss-crosses Wantagh Park. This Nassau County Park is not a natural area, but is primarily used for field sports, picnicking, swimming, fishing and boating. However, a drive to the shore overlooking Flat Creek offers rewarding observation of water birds and the network of estuary islands and channels. How to Get There: Take Wantagh Parkway to exit W6 west. You will see the entrance to the park across the street from the exit ramp, but will not be able to make a left-hand turn. Once you get off the exit ramp, move immediately to the left-hand lane and make your very first left onto Sycamore Street. Take it one block to St. Regis Street and make a left. Take this one block to Woodland Avenue and make a left. Take Woodland Avenue almost to the traffic light for Merrick Avenue, and make right into the park onto Kings Road. Pull into the first parking lot. Take one of the paved bike paths and head south toward the bay. Take note of the wetlands as you travel along the path. Take a moment to stop at the bay for a beautiful and up close view of the estuary’s wetlands and some bird observation, before returning to your car.
