Point Lookout Town Park
(Point Lookout Village)

Located at the eastern tip of Long Beach Island, Point Lookout is a rich place to observe wildlife and to view the flow of currents through Jones Inlet and into the estuary. This site is especially known for sightings of bird rarities such as the little gull, black-headed gull, glaucous gull, piping plover and harlequin duck, as well as snowy owl in the winter. The best time for bird observation is winter and spring. Of course, binoculars are a must to really appreciate the bird life. Your view of the inlet may also reward you with large flocks of Bonaparte gulls, loons, horned and red-necked grebes and red-breasted mergansers.

How to Get There: Take Meadowbrook Parkway south to exit M10. Go west on Loop Parkway to where it ends. Turn left at the traffic light and drive on Lido Blvd. through Point Lookout Village. Park as far east as you can, but parking is prohibited in the last two blocks or on side streets.

Walk east on Lido Blvd. Go through the pedestrian gate into the town park and to the inlet. After you are done at the inlet, follow the shore south, pass the last brick house back to the street, then follow down the street to the fence and gate walkway which brings you to the ocean beach where additional water birds can be seen.
