Merrick County Preserve
(Merrick Village)

A pleasant little nature preserve is sandwiched in between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road. On the maps, it is Merrick County Preserve, but the entrance sign labels it Faith Laursen Meroke Preserve. The preserve’s trails are attractive though short (0.3 mile). But for environmental classes or anyone coming for nature study or contemplation, you can spend at least an hour here. The paths take you through upland forest. A nice stream with a footbridge, and even benches, add to the setting.

How to Get There: Take the Wantagh Parkway to exit W6 west. Take Merrick Road one mile past Mill Pond Park. Turn right onto Farmers Avenue (two blocks after Newbridge Road). In one block, look on your left for the trail entrance with a sign. Explore all the trails inside the preserve. You cannot get lost.
