Cupsogue Beach County Park
(Barrier Island - Westhampton)

Another park where you can see nesting areas of the piping plover and least tern is Cupsogue Beach County Park. The best time to see shore birds and other rarities is late summer. The park is located on the east side of Moriches Inlet and requires a county permit. For further information during the warm season contact Cupsogue Beach Park at (631) 854-8111. At all other times, contact the Suffolk County Parks Department at (631) 854-4949.

How to Get There: To get to Cupsogue Beach County Park, take Sunrise Highway (Route 27) to exit 63. Go south on Route 31 (Old Riverhead Road). Stay on Route 31 through the village of Westhampton Beach. Follow signs to “Westhampton Beach” and cross the bay bridge onto the barrier island. Turn right (west) on Dune Road. Follow it 5.5 miles to its end at Moriches Inlet. Walk along the bay, the inlet and the beach for an enjoyable wildlife observation experience.
