The South Shore Estuary Reserve's diverse natural resources offer some of the finest opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Northeast. This access guide provides information on nearly 60 public parks, preserves, bike and foot trails, and related facilities in the Reserve where you can access and enjoy the Reserve's natural treasures. Want to picnic? Sun bathe? Do you enjoy nature study, photography, or simple contemplation of nature’s beauty?

Are hiking, jogging, horseback riding, cycling or paddling more your interest? Did you know there are currently 33 miles of paved bike paths, 28 miles of long-distance hiking trails, an 8-mile wilderness trail in the Fire Island National Sea Shore, and a 7-mile canoe trail up the Carmans River? This access guide will lead you to these opportunities and many more in Long Island's South Shore Estuary Reserve.
